Before you can save money, it helps to know where it's going — and that's where Sammy the Savings Sloth's favorite question comes in: is this a need, or a want?
Needs are the things you truly can't go without — food, a roof, keeping the lights on. Wants are the extras that make life fun but aren't essential — the daily treat, the upgrade, the impulse buy. Neither one is bad. The trick is simply knowing the difference before you spend.
Sammy's approach is to slow down and ask the question first. That little pause creates room to make a choice instead of a reflex — and often, it frees up a bit of money you can send straight to savings instead.
You don't have to give up everything you enjoy. You just have to spend on purpose. Do that consistently, and saving gets a whole lot easier.
Want more room to save? Start by asking Sammy's question: need, or want? And when you're ready to put those savings to work, the True Crew at True North is here to help.
