Board of Directors Final Slate of Candidates

Our Nominating Committee’s Final Slate of Candidates

As a Member of True North FCU, a Member-Owned Cooperative, you have the opportunity to elect your volunteer Board of Directors.

The True North Nominating Committee has named Alec Mesdag and Ashley Brown as their candidates for the two Board seats that expire in 2026. Below is information about the nominated candidates:

.

Alec Mesdag (Incumbent)

Alec joined AEL&P in 2012 as energy services specialist and was promoted to vice president and director of energy services in 2013. In 2023, Alec was promoted to president and CEO. In his time with the utility, he has worked to influence how customers consume energy in order to maximize the value of electric infrastructure. Alec grew up in Juneau and graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School. He holds a degree in environmental science from Oregon State University, and prior to joining AEL&P, he worked as a project manager and project developer for Oregon Electric Group, an electrical contractor based in Portland, Oregon.

Alec has been involved with many local organizations, including having served as a director for the Juneau Economic Development Council and Alaska Heat Smart, and he is a current board member of Southeast Conference, the Juneau Chamber of Commerce, and the National Hydropower Association. Alec’s wife, Meta Mesdag, owns Salty Lady Seafood Co., a small oyster farm near Juneau, and they have three children, ages 18, 15 and 11.

Ashley Brown

Ashley has lived in Anchorage for the last 15 years. She is an attorney and shareholder at the Anchorage law firm Guess & Rudd, P.C., where she practices primarily utility, natural resource, and environmental law. Before entering private practice, Ashley was an attorney with the State of Alaska, Department of Law, Civil Division, for over 10 years. Ashley’s professional experience as both a state and private attorney provides insight into regulatory strategy, risk management, and governance oversight, which would allow Ashley to make a meaningful contribution to the board.

Ashley’s interest in serving on the True North Board stems from her commitment to public service. She is an active member of the Alaska Bar Association, serving on the Fair and Impartial Courts Committee and the Bar Scholarship Committee. She has previously served as a board member of the Anchorage Association of Women Lawyers. Ashley is interested in joining the True North Federal Credit Union Board to expand her community service beyond the legal community and to contribute to True North’s goals of supporting individuals and businesses in Alaska with the right financial solutions.

In her spare time, Ashley enjoys hiking, cross-country skiing, and watercolor painting.
